Dumpsters that vomit pickers
This article examines the strategies to programming the access to the public space by means of the design of street furniture. With this purpose, it is based on the study of the recycling dumpster, considering the way in which the design of the above mentioned devices operates as regulatory mechanism of the informal economies through the bodies of the metal collectors. Later, there offers a mapping of the objects implemented in the urban space, whose design is aimed to prevent the interaction with certain ways of life. The article explores criteria and instruments for a critical theory of the design languages, identifying the processes that put to work a product under an excluding operating logic. Finally, it presents case studies that allow to think the design as a field of aesthetic simulation in free play: one that is not focused on preventing the connections, but on restoring the technical objects to the common use.
