Los campos electromagnéticos, by Jorge Carrión with Taller Estampa, was published in 2023 in the Futuros próximos collection of Caja Negra. Coinciding with the centenary of Los campos magnéticos by Breton and Soupault, the book brings together two literary texts generated by text generation systems — a GPT-2 model trained on the author’s books and those of his literary contemporaries, as well as interactions with the first version of GPT-3 — that is, texts produced by statistically predicting linguistic patterns. Added to these are an introduction and an epilogue by Carrión reflecting on the relationship between writing and automation.

As well as documenting the capabilities and limitations of text generation programmes in 2023, the work presents itself as a twofold essay: a speculative thought experiment and an open book-format experiment that questions the process of its own creation.
